  • What is the EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) rate this year?

  • For how many children may I claim EITC?

    Up to 3.

  • How much is the child tax credit and do I qualify?

  • My friend and I filed the same day. Their refund has been deposited, mine has not. Why did this happen?

There may be several factors. First, returns are processed in batches. You were probably in different batches. Also, it depends on how many times your bank updates in a day. Some banks update all day while others may do so only one or twice a day. Please be patient. The IRS gives up to date return status information. This system only updates once a day. So no need to call all day as the information may not change. As a last resort please make sure that you do not have any debts that may slow your refund. You may check to see if someone may be offsetting your refund by calling

  • I have been checking my refund status all day but nothing has changed. When does the system update?

The system only updates once daily, usually overnight. Do not check your return more than twice in a day. Checking the status more often may lock you out of the system.

  • My refund says it was deposited but it has not posted to my account. What do I do?

Please be patient. Your refund may have originated from the west coast and we must allow for the time difference. If you are really concerned you should call your financial institution.

  • I called the IRS about my refund but I keep getting the automated system. How can I speak with a live person?

During the filing system it is very hard to speak with a representative. In general, the IRS asks that you only call 21 days after filing. Prior to this there probably won’t be any information available.

  • I received a refund advance. How will I get the remainder of my refund?

It depends. If you received your Refund Advance in a check, the remainder will come in a check that you can pick up from the office. At the same time, if you chose direct deposit, the remainder will also come via direct deposit. Direct deposit is always the quickest way to receive your refund.

  • Do I have to file all of my w2s for the current year or can I wait 3 years?

You must file all w2s in the tax year earned. So if your w2 is from 2019, it must be filed on your 2019 tax return.

You have 3 years in which you may amend (make any changes) to your tax return.

So, if you do not file a w2 and it negatively affects your refund amount. You will owe penalties and interest from the end of the tax period of that year.

  • Can I add w2s from previous tax years to the current one?

No. W2s must be filed in the tax year issued. The year is normally listed on the w2

  • I forgot to file a w2 last year. It came after I filed. What do I do?

You must amend that year’s tax return. So simply bring in your return and the missed w2 and you can process your amendment.

  • I filed my tax return, but it was rejected because someone claimed my dependent(s). How can I fix this?

First be sure and verify all of your dependent’s information including the date of birth, social security number and name as listed on their social security card. If everything is correct you should contact the IRS and request a dependent PIN to use in future returns. This is a code that only you will know. Without this code you child cannot be listed on a return.
